The third annual mountain run with a dog was organized on September 30, 2023 by the Fatranský Vĺčko team again in the ski resort Winter Park Martinky on Martinské hole.
The mountain canicross, which took place this year in Turku under the title “Dog Skyrace Martinky”, is a sports event – a run with a dog, where a competitive pair of humans and dogs overcomes a marked route in the fastest possible time. During the entire race, the dog must be connected to the participant by a leash with a shock absorber, the athlete uses a special seat and the dog is wearing a pulling harness.
The event at Martinské hole was attended by 60 two and four-legged pairs, who were awaited by a technically demanding route with a length of 4.6 km, leading along the slopes of the ski resort and hiking trails. The participants also had to deal with the +270m elevation gain of the track. 4 girls and 2 boys under the age of 12 completed the children’s route with a length of 1 km.
Among the men, Ján Mikuš won with the best time of 17 minutes and 23 seconds, and the fastest woman was Karin Murgašová from the home team Fatranský Vĺčko with a time of 25 minutes and 28 seconds. Competitors came to Turiec from all over Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The visitors appreciated the professional organization of the event and the beautiful environment of Lúčanská Mala Fatra with views of the entire Turčianska basin. Thanks to this event, the Turiec region and its natural wealth will gain promotion within Slovakia and beyond its borders.
The event was realized with the financial contribution of the city of Martin and with the financial support of the Turiec Regional Tourism Organization.
